Program Overview

If you enjoy donating your time for volunteering, have passion for community services and international development, have the desire desire to give back to the global community as a world citizen, and want to experience new and diverse cultures, then you are invited by Agenda Africa to join us as a volunteer for unique form of participation in community service and cross-cultural learning experiences in Kenya.

Agenda Africa welcomes all volunteers irrespective of race, gender, nationality of religion, to become part of our volunteers team. A volunteer team is always divers, and joining is an opportunity for everyone! If you are a college or graduate student, volunteering or interning with Agenda Africa will be a great way for you to see the world and to help shape your approaching career path. As a young or mid-career professional, you can trade a holiday to the Western world for a volunteering opportunity, thereby using your unique skills in a very fulfilling way to help shape the future of Kenya, Africa, and the global community as a whole. Even if you are a family looking to work closely together on a community service project, we have opportunities that are well suited for you. Retirees who have just retired, join us in Africa and kick start the next phase of your life.

 

Objective

Be able to give back to the global community through your acquired technical skills by placing a smile and hope into the faces of the less-fortunate members of the society as you learn their culture.


Why volunteer?

  • Interns will be given an opportunity to provide hands-on services which they wouldn’t have experienced until later in your career;

  • It will help develop a sense of compassion for less-fortunate and become better professionals i.e. doctors teachers, nurses etc;

What else can you learn from the Kenyan experience?*

  • Attend your language lessons in Swahili;

  • Go on Safari to Africa's famous Maasai regions such as the Maasai Mara game reserve;

  • Visit the beauty of Kenya coastal beaches in Lamu, Mombasa or others;

  • Visit to the Kogelo village, the home of the United States of America president Barack Obama's father’s (in Nyanza province, home of the Luo people);

Qualifications

 

You are...

  • ...18 Years or above;

  • ...open-minded and are willing to learn peculiarities of other cultures;

  • ...idealistic in your passion to work for the benefits of the marginalised people of Africa;

  • ...realistic in the goals and objectives you want to set during your stay in Kenya;

  • ...able to work in a team of both national and international volunteers of all ages and backgrounds;

  • ...able to adapt to local living conditions; both urban and rural depending on the project you are applying to;

  • ...most importantly, enjoy your stay in Kenya!


Role of volunteers;

  • Volunteer will assist generally in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of certain community projects together with other local staff members;

  • Volunteers will be service providers in tasks bestowed on them based on their area of specialization;

  • All these will be done at community based projects across the regions listed and fields mentioned above. These can include dispensaries, hospitals, schools, orphanages, project sites, non-governmental organizations, community based organizations, and others;

  • Work in for offices and local initiatives, agricultural projects etc. in order to supplement efforts of the staff and employees in these sites.


Included in the program;

  • All airport transfers;

  • Two weeks orientation while living with urban host;

  • Volunteer placement to project sites;

  • All back-office administration;

  • All accommodations, including rural and urban host family;

  • All meals during your placement (three meals a day);

  • Continuous support and assistance from your coordinator throughout the full time of placement;

  • Provided insights into cultural practices of the local community where you are placed, such as cooking, songs, dances etcetera.


Not included in the Program

  • Personal traveling insurance;

  • Health insurance;

  • Flight expenses;

  • Expenses for personal transports and excursions;

  • Visa for entry into Kenya (but we can assist with information when necessary );

  • Communications (Internet / email / international calls available, but for volunteers' own expenses).


Costs**

  • Please contact us for costs & details regarding volunteer positions and internships.

  • Swahili lessons in the first two weeks will be at a cost of USD 80 daily.


 

Payment details;

80% Of the cost for three months will be paid prior to arrival and placement to the bank account related to the specific project; The remainder will be paid in cash on arrival;
